It's Friday, September 9th, 2011. New Jersey politics and government approaches this weekend's 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks with the following.

  • Gov. Chris Christie holds a Cabinet meeting at Princeton University's Nassau Hall.
  • In Hoboken, U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez holds a news conference with members of New Jersey Task Force One, including founder James Riley, and Mayor Dawn Zimmer, calling for the search and rescue team to be certified by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, making it eligible for more federal resources. First responders from the group spent 10 days at the World Trade Center site working to recover and rescue victims.
  • Former Gov. Thomas Kean discusses the implementation of the 9/11 Commission's recommendations and tours New Jersey's 'fusion center' this afternoon at the Regional Operations Intelligence Center in West Trenton. He's joined by Col. Rick Fuentes, superintendent of the New Jersey State Police, and Charles McKenna, director of the state Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness.
  • U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance's staff holds a mobile office at the Woodbridge Community Center to help residents and small businesses access Hurricane Irene disaster assistance. Officials from FEMA will be there.
  • The Citizens Campaign holds a coaching session for the New Jersey Hyperlocal News Association to teach people interested in learning how to cover local campaigns and fundraising at the Rutgers Student Center in New Brunswick. Speakers are Monmouth University political scientist Patrick Murray, Election Law Enforcement Commission deputy director Joseph Donohue, PolitiFax editor Nick Acocella and PatersonPress.com editor Joseph Malinconico.
  • The Hispanic Leadership Summit is held today and tomorrow at the Aloft Hotel in Mount Laurel. Assm. Angel Fuentes is the chairman.
  • Pinelands Commission meets in New Lisbon.
  • Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority meets in Eatontown to consider approval of lease for the Suneagles Golf Course from the U.S. Army.
  • Genetic Counseling Advisory Committee meets.
  • Tomorrow, the Empty Sky Memorial will be dedicated at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, marking Sunday's 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack, in which 746 New Jerseyans were killed.
  • On Sunday, Assm. Gary Schaer turns 60.
  • On Sunday, Assm. Vincent Prieto turns 51.
